Sudan's defense minister announces arrest of President al-Bashir

Sudan's Defense Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf announced Thursday that President Omar al-Bashir has been arrested and the military council will take over the country for a two-year transitional period.
In a televised statement, the defense minister also announced a state of emergency for three months and a suspension of the constitution.
The country's airspace will be closed for 24 hours and the border crossings have been closed until further notice, according to the statement.
Al-Bashir, 75, had been in power for 30 years.
