Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the efforts of the country's teachers and called on the society to value education highly. Xi made the remarks on Monday at a national education conference called to commemorate China's 34th Teachers' Day. He said teachers were engineers for the human soul and the heirs of civilization, adding that they should be afforded a higher status in society, both socially and professionally.
