Running is an integral part of American football and a competition is being held to determine who could lay claim to be the fastest player in the NFL.
What's being dubbed the first annual 40 Yards of Gold will be take place on June 29, according to ESPN.
Running back Alvin Kamara and receiver Ted Ginn Jr of the New Orleans Saints are among the hosts of the event, which is not affiliated with the NFL. There will be 12 offensive and 12 defensive players competing head-to-head before winners of the two divisions meet each other in the final.
Twenty-two names have already been revealed with two "mystery" participants remaining in the shadows. Seeding will be decided by fan voting which will end on Sunday when the matchups will be announced.

Many expect Ginn to win the contest. The 34-year-old receiver once told Adam Lefkoe of Bleacher Report that he would race anyone in 40-yard sprinting for 10,000 U.S. dollars. Besides, Jason Owens of Yahoo Sports said Ginn finished the distance at 4.22 seconds with the Ohio State University and that could match the record kept by John Ross of the Cincinnati Bengals. However, Ginn has never attended the 40-yard testing in the NFL Draft Combine.
Of all players whose 40-yard dash records can be found from the league, Trae Waynes of the Minnesota Vikings has the best of 4.31 seconds, followed by Washington Redskins' Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie's 4.33 and Robby Anderson of the New York Jets 4.34 and Mark Ingram II of the Baltimore Ravens 4.62
Though none of the nine players who finished the dash within 4.30 seconds will participate in the tournament this time, the event can still bring some fun to football fans starved by a seven-month long offseason.
