China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday denied the accusation that several Chinese diplomats "barged into" the office of Papua New Guinea's (PNG) foreign minister during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, dismissing it as "rumors spread with ulterior motives."
"China and PNG have always maintained smooth and effective communication. Any attempt to undermine China-PNG relations will not succeed," foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at Monday's daily presser.
Geng also responded to the news that the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting failed to reach a consensus. "It is true that the meeting reached no joint statement, but the reason is not what the US alleged," Geng noted.
