Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, sent a message of condolence to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President Nguyen Phu Trong over Vietnamese former President Le Duc Anh's death on Wednesday.
Le Duc Anh, born in 1920, passed away on Monday.
Anh was committed to the national construction of Vietnam and actively promoting the development of bilateral relations of the two countries, the Chinese president said.
Xi believed that the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese government and its people will turn grief into strength and continue to achieve new achievements.
Le Duc Anh died at his house in Hanoi due to illness, according to Vietnam's National Commission of Health Services for Senior Officials.
Anh, born in central Thua Thien Hue province, served as a president from 1992 to 1997 after acting as a defense minister.
