A photography and video exhibition opened Thursday in Pingyao, north China's Shanxi Province, to mark the China Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, a national event that has been celebrated every June since 2006.
The exhibition, with the theme "memory, life, communication", will feature 30 documentaries on culture, natural heritage protection and several academic forums.
During the three-day exhibition, three films related to intangible cultural heritage – “A Bite of China”, “The Grand Song”, and “Masters in Forbidden City” – will be screened by an outdoor cinema.

Masters of eight examples of intangible cultural heritage in Pingyao, such as the buffing and decorating techniques of Pingyao lacquer, facial makeup mask arts and traditional cloth shoe-making will be invited to introduce and present their crafts.
Experts in anthropology, ethnology and folklore will participate in discussions on the theme of "national memory" this year.
"We hope more people can participate in recording our cultural heritage and help to preserve a cultural memory of our nation," said Li Song, director of the exhibition.
The exhibition will run until Saturday.
