How much is the total award money for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia? Tencent Sports on Saturday  gave the answer of 791 million US dollars. The other 32 teams playing in the tournament will take a share of around 400 million US dollars as a bonus.
The World Cup does not follow absolute equalitarianism in money distribution. The winner of the final championship will get roughly 38 million US dollars, which is 9.5 percent of the total while the losing team in the final will get seven percent, or about 28 million US dollars. Third- and fourth-place teams will get 24 million and 22 million respectively, according to Total Sportek.

Teams that make it into the knockout stage will also make a fortune. Each of the eight eliminated countries from the round of 16 will gain 12 million US dollars. The sum for the four teams that lose in the quarter-finals will rise to 16 million US dollars. And even if your country gets knocked out during the group stage, they will still receive eight million US dollars each in addition to the 1.5 million US dollars they receive for qualifying for the tournament of 32 teams.
Around 209 million US dollars will go to the Club Benefits Program. The money is not for the countries’ football associations but for the clubs who have contracts with the players. It was set up before the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa as a solution to the argument between clubs and FAs-clubs pay players money and thus surely are not happy to see their valuable assets take risks in the field for free for their countries.

Besides benefits, FIFA has also prepared 134 million US dollars as a player insurance fee as compensation for the clubs. If a player gets hurt in the tournament, the club he belongs to can get their share from the program.
Compared with the 564 million US dollars prepared for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, FIFA has increased the number by some 40 percent this time. The organization was so generous for a reason. The tournament has created outstanding revenue for FIFA. Total Sportek said that FIFA made 4.8 billion US dollars from the 2014 World Cup, with TV and marketing rights as the main sources of the revenue. With 2.7 billion US dollars as expenses aside, the organization made 2.1 billion US dollars in profit. TV and marketing rights were the main sources of the revenue.
