Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday sent a congratulatory message to the World Environment Day celebrations held in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province.
Xi stressed that protecting the ecological environment and promoting sustainable development is a shared responsibility of the whole international community, calling for joint efforts in fully implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and tackling global challenges headed by environmental pollution, climate change and the loss of biodiversity.
China highly values ecological and environmental protection, Xi said in his letter. Guided by the conviction that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, the country has made constructing the ecological civilization a part of China's overall national development strategy.
China is ready to work with the international community to stay committed to the path of green and sustainable development, and to contribute to building a community with shared future for mankind, said Xi.
World Environment Day is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action and takes place every June 5. The theme for this year is "Air Pollution."
