China's implementation of WTO rulings is flawless, and it has never been sued by other WTO members for failing to implement WTO rulings, said vice minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen on Thursday.
Wang made the remarks during a press conference about a white paper titled "China and the World Trade Organization". The document was released by the State Council Information Office Thursday afternoon.
“As a member of the WTO, when China is dissatisfied with other members’ practices, we do not use unilateral forces to exert pressure on others. Instead, we go to the WTO to inform them and use multilateral rules to solve problems,” said Wang.
Till this day 41 cases have been filed with the WTO against China, and 33 of the 41 cases have been closed.
“China now has 17 cases as complainant. There are some cases that China has won, and we are very happy to ask the other party to fulfill their obligations. In some cases, China did not win, and we also accepted the WTO ruling. Therefore, China’s position on supporting multilateral rules is unwavering.”
Wang also pointed out that if China’s trading partners believe that China’s practices are in violation of WTO regulations, they are welcomed to request for consultation with the WTO, and China is a multilateralist, as it follows the rules of the WTO by conducting negotiations in case of trade frictions, instead of enforcing political power.
