Greece has regained its destiny after eight years of painful bailout sacrifices, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Tuesday.
Greece has "won back the right to determine its own fortunes and future," Tsipras said in a televised address from the island of Ithaca in a nod to Homer's Odyssey.
"Today is a day of redemption, but it is also the start of a new era," Tsipras said.
He added that Greece had lived through a "modern-day Odyssey" during the crisis, adopting 65 billion euros ($75 billion) worth of austerity measures and living in a "constant state of emergency."
And although Greece's third and final bailout officially ended Monday, experts warn that the country's challenges are far from over.
