International Pancake Day was marked with a competition of the most innovative pancake on Tuesday in Bosnia and Herzegovina's city of Zenica, some 70 kilometers northwest of the capital Sarajevo.
More than 40 high school students from BiH and Croatia demonstrated their talent in preparing sweet and salty pancakes, using different techniques of pancake decoration, different colors, sweeteners, and molding pancakes in different shapes, all in order to win the most number of points by judges.
The aim of this international competition is for the students to show their creativity and is also aimed to promote domestic cuisine, Hamid Kurjakovic, member of BiH's Chef Association, told Xinhua.

"Students are very creative. Judges mark the taste of pancakes, but also the look, the first visual impression, and the way of pancake preparation," Amira Jusufovic, one of the chefs, told Xinhua.
Pancake preparation is a hobby for Amina Halilovic, a high school student from Zenica. She said that she has been preparing this treat since she was a little girl, primarily learning from her grandmother and mother.
Hundreds of visitors had the opportunity to eat the pancakes, drink traditional BiH coffee and enjoy music.
Marked on first Tuesday in March in many countries, International Pancake Day has been celebrated for some 500 years worldwide. In BiH, this day has been marked since 2014.
