A funeral service center in south China's Guangzhou City, together with a local research center of China's Ministry of Civil Affairs, has developed a high-tech service to repair faces that have been disfigured at death with the help of 3D printing technology. /VCG Photo
Every year, the center receives more than 1,000 bodies of people who have died through traffic collisions, fires and other accidents. And about 30 to 40 families would ask for body repair services, especially face repair. /VCG Photo
Researchers started by logging the photos of the deceased into a computer to generate 3D face models with white resinous material. And then a cosmetic surgeon applies makeup on the faces to make them look more natural, with skin color and facial hair resembling real humans. /VCG Photo
It is a complicated process that usually takes a long time to complete and costs up to 10,000 to 20,000 yuan (1,488 to 2,977 U.S. dollars) in metropolises such as Beijing and Shanghai, according to an employee at the center. /VCG Photo
