China's Lop Nur, almost twice the size of Shanghai, is the largest potassium sulfate production base in the world. Over half of the agricultural potash in China comes from here. It has over 3,000 employees, with the closest stations often over a dozen kilometers away, while their families are in Hami, over 400 km away. Yet thanks to their efforts, from initial mining to industrial production, Lop Nur's potash production has grown 60-fold over the past two decades.
