Chinese midfielder Wang Shuang and Asian Women's Player of the Year by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has been playing at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a little over three months. She has carried her strong form across continents to Europe, finding the net in both the French top flight and the Champions League.
Early practice brings Wang Shuang to PSG's training site, more than 20km from downtown Paris. The club's only Asian member has lived fairly close to the complex since signing a two-year contract in August, but she is still learning to get around the French capital.
"I take Line 259 every day, and then I walk for a short time, after spending about 15 minutes on the bus," said Wang.

Wang was recently named AFC Women's Player of the Year – edging last year's honoree, Samantha Kerr of Australia – as well as Japan's Asian Cup winner, Saki Kumagai. The award capped 12 months of highlights for the midfielder, including her move to Paris and leading China to silver at the 2018 Asian Games. But she said her main focus right now is to gain the confidence and trust of her new coaches and teammates.
"I always ask myself how I can be recognized by my teammates," said Wang. "The only way is to work hard and score goals consistently so that they will have trust in me. During matches, I'm supposed to be determined to show my ability, and to score at the right time. This is the only way that I can earn trust from others."
Wang has appeared in 10 matches for PSG, contributing four goals and four assists. The 23-year-old admits competing abroad meant leaving behind a comfortable home life, but said she's motivated by the challenge of becoming the best possible player on the highest available stage.
