China and Cyprus signed a cooperation document under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Beijing on Thursday after talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades.
Anastasiades is in the Chinese capital to attend the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) scheduled for April 25-27.
Cyprus is located in a hub position between Europe, Asia and Africa, Xi told Anastasiades, calling it an important participant in co-building the Belt and Road.
China is willing to deepen cooperation with Cyprus in areas such as ports, sea transportation and infrastructure construction, Xi added.
On his part, Anastasiades said Cyprus will play an active role in BRI cooperation and enhance the connectivity between Europe and Asia.
