China strongly condemned a Swedish television show's racist comments, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said on Monday.
Sweden's national public broadcaster, Sveriges Television (SVT), aired an episode of “Sweden News” on September 21, involving racist comments against China and Chinese people.
"The Swedish TV anchor's remarks are filled with discrimination, prejudice, and defiance against China as well as other ethnicities, which has severely deviated from media ethics," MOFA's spokesperson Geng Shuang said at a daily news briefing when asked to comment on the issue.
According to him, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and China's Embassy in Sweden have strongly protested against such behavior in both Beijing and Stockholm and asked for serious negotiations from the Swedish side.
"The Chinese side has also asked the person responsible for the issue to carry out methods mitigating the negative impact and reserved the right to act further if necessary," Geng Shuang said.
Sveriges Television, Sweden's largest television station, aired an episode of "Sweden News" on Friday, in which the host presented an incorrect map of China and made jokes about the Chinese family who had claimed to have been mistreated by the police in Sweden during a trip to Stockholm.
