In Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia, Tecno stores are frequently seen on the streets. This brand sounds unfamiliar to Chinese consumers, but it belongs to Trassion, a smartphone maker from China’s Shenzhen. According to IDC figures for 2018, Transsion ranks 4th in global mobile phone brands and holds the largest market share in Africa. Transsion was included in the Top 50 Chinese Cross-border Brands jointly released by Facebook and KPMG in 2018 as well. Transsion's three mobile phone brands Tecno, Itel and Infinix ranked 7th, 16th, and 28th respectively among the 100 most-admired brands in Africa, a ranking compiled by African Business in June 2018. Tecno is cost-effective, and its marketing strategy is approachable. For example, a store in Addis Ababa offered eggs to people who purchased a phone before Easter Sunday.
