Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday met Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on the sideline of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Xi told Swaraj that China hopes to boost the development of the SCO.
Swaraj also met Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan and the two discussed the bilateral ties.
Wang said China hopes India can play a bigger role within the SCO framework, and work with China to jointly safeguard the multilateral trade system. Swaraj said India attaches great importance to relations with China and stood ready to maintain high-level exchanges.
They also spoke of the upcoming informal meeting between President Xi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to be held in central China's Wuhan city from Friday to Saturday.
Chinese Foreign Ministry said the meeting will focus on strategic talks on global and regional issues concerned, as well as bilateral ties.
The meeting will pick the direction, set targets and open new platforms for the future of these relations, the ministry told reporters in a press briefing on Tuesday.
