16-year-old Chinese Wang Jianjiahe Wednesday blazed to a 15:46.69, setting new Chinese and Asian records to win the women's 1,500m freestyle in the opening event at the 2019 US Pro Swim Series (PPS) Des Moines stop, Iowa.
Both records were held by Wang's teammate, Li Bingjie, who came in 3rd with a 16:19.71 in the event. Li held the records at 15:52.87 from the 2017 Chinese National Games.
33-year-old Kristel Koebrich from Chile came second in 16:17.92.
Wang won the 400m, 800m and 1,500m free titles and helped a 4x200m free relay triumph at last year's Asian Games.
She also won the 800m free world short-course title last year in home water in Hangzhou, where she also took second in the 400m and swam the anchor leg on the championship 4x200m free relay.
