Couples lined up to submit marriage documents to coincide with Japan's new Emperor Naruhito taking the throne. His enthronement marks the beginning of the new Reiwa (beautiful harmony) era. In Tokyo's Chiyoda City government office, dozens of couples waited to officially tie the knot. The Chiyoda ward is an area of Tokyo that includes the Imperial Palace, where the ceremonies for the new emperor's coronation took place.
