China successfully sent five Zhuhai-1 remote sensing satellites into space on a single carrier rocket on Thursday.
The Long March-11 carrier rocket was launched at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gobi Desert at 12:42 p.m. BJT.
The Zhuhai-1 is a commercial remote sensing satellite cluster developed with investment from Zhuhai Orbita Aerospace Science and Technology Co. It will provide data services for areas including agriculture, land and water resources, environmental protection and transport.
This is the 272nd launch by the Long March carrier rocket series.
The Long March-11 is a Chinese, solid-fueled carrier rocket. Later this year, China’s first sea launch is expected to be made with one of these rockets, providing another option for the commercial space industry.
