At least one person was killed and several others were injured after a gunman opened fire in an industrial building in Aurora, Illinois, on Friday, according to city and law enforcement officials.
Police reported an "active shooter" at about 14:00 local time (20:00 GMT) in the city of Aurora, which is roughly 50 miles (80.5 km) west of Chicago, and then about an hour later they said the shooting suspect had been apprehended.
Four police officers and several civilians were wounded in the attack, Illinois Fraternal Order of Police State Lodge President Chris Southwood said in a statement.
An investigation into the motivation of the gunman and the number of wounded people is still underway.
A spokeswoman for U.S. President Donald Trump said that he was aware of the
incident.
Later, on his Twitter, President Trump expressed "heartfelt" condolences to all of the victims and their families and praised the "great job" by local law enforcement.
