Six people were killed and at least 20 people were injured in an explosion in Kabul's city center, according to Tolo News citing officials from the country's Ministry of Interior.
The explosion took place when a suicide bomber blew himself up close to a police checkpoint near a school in the center of Afghanistan's capital city, according to local officials.
Scores of Afghans had been protesting against Taliban attacks on the minority Hazara ethnic group near the site.
"The suicide attacker wanted to target protesters on foot, but he was stopped at a security checkpoint some 200 meters from the site," interior ministry deputy spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said, adding that most of the casualties were security forces.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
