Second day of the FINA Diving World Cup resumes in Wuhan. Home favorites Cao Yuan and Xie Siyi claimed gold in the men's three meter synchronized springboard on Tuesday, going one better than their silver from the event at the World Championships in Budapest last season.
Cao and Xie lost out due to an error in their final dive in the Hungarian capital. But, after their first two dives, are ranked first in Wuhan.
But when Cao entered the pool with a little less grace than planned, the pair were knocked off their perch.
Rio Olympic champions Jack Laugher and Chris Mears seized the initiative and raced past their PRC counterparts to reach the top with a lead of ten points.
However, it didn’t last for the Brits. Mears had a disastrous finish in their final attempt, as he failed to keep both legs straight on entry. It only earned them 70.68 points.
Cao and Xie eventually clinched first place with 448.74 points, edging out Laughter and Mears by just 8.1 points.
