The opening ceremony of the 14th Changchun Film Festival was held in Changchun City, northeast China's Jilin Province, on Saturday. Alec Su, also known as Su Youpeng, one of the festival's judges, said his transition from acting to directing had given him insight into filmmaking.
The film festival, under the theme "crossing, connecting, creating," aims to support the development of young Chinese films and filmmakers.
"When I was an actor, I focused more on acting, though I also needed to understand what the director wanted to do," Su said.
"But after turning into a director, I needed to learn how to see the whole picture, and it made me understand the broad and deep beauty of the art of filmmaking," he added.
He won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 30th "Hundred Flowers Awards" for his role in "The Message."
The first movie Su directed was "The Left Ear" in 2014, which landed him the nomination for the Best New Director Award at the "Golden Horse Award." In 2016, he filmed "The Devotion of Suspect X."
The jury of "Golden Deer Awards" at the Changchun Film Festival consists of celebrities in the film industry and film professionals.
