For them, these daily chores were an ordinary part of life. Throughout history, they have repeated the same routine, which has for the most part kept them confined to the living room. However, their ingenuity and the new development opportunities provided by this era have brought about huge changes to how these women practice their craft.
Yao Jianping, an embroiderer from Suzhou, has been immersed in her art over the past years. Dong Jing is a renowned Qiang embroidery teacher from Sichuan Province. After the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, she joined a reconstruction program launched by the local government to help the local women get through their hardships. Embroidery is now not only a source of income for them, but something that feeds their souls and brings them hope.
Cai Qun learned batik from her mother when she was a teenager. She established a batik factory in her hometown and taught the local women how to make a living using the technique they had mastered in their childhood. Now, her factory has become a part of the region's poverty alleviation program.

The things they produce may seem trivial, but their creations have continued throughout history, even in times of war and disaster. Their craftsmanship is like a continuous yarn that has been woven into the tapestry of the world's civilization. Our mothers are already stepping out of the living room and onto a bigger stage by the light of the new era.
