Gala celebrates 40 years of reform and opening-up

A grand gala was held in Beijing on Friday evening to celebrate the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up.

Chinese President Xi Jinping along with over 3,000 people attended the gala at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

"Our 40 Years" narrated the changes that have taken place in China since the implementation of the reform and opening-up policy, expressing Chinese people's gratitude and praise for the policy and its future.

The performances featured the economic development of the Chinese mainland and the improvement in people's living standards over the past 40 years.

Songs such as "Young Friends Gathering" and "Our Life is Full of Sunshine" rewined the process of China's reform and opening-up at the beginning of the show.

Other tracks like "The Outside World" and "The Story of Spring" commemorated the hard work and dedication of those who have contributed to building China's special economic zones, such as Shenzhen, across the country.

These songs were widely played during the 1990s and are now familiar tune to most Chinese people.

Songs reflecting the fruits of China's rural reforms and the vitality of rural China were also performed, including "On the Fields of Hope" and " I Love You, the Snow in Northern Frontier."

The performances reflected the determination and confidence of the Chinese people to carry out the reform and opening-up policy all the way.

The gala is one of many activities, including exhibitions, photo shows, stamp shows, and documentaries, held throughout 2018 across China to commemorate 40 years of the country's reform and opening-up.
