Happy 85th birthday, Donald!

Special shows will be held and exclusive products offered from June 3 to 9 at Shanghai Disney Resort to celebrate the 85th birthday of Donald Duck.

Created by Walt Disney himself, Donald Duck debuted in "The Wise Little Hen," part of the Silly Symphonies series, on June 9, 1934.

His China history dates back to 1936 in a cartoon in The China Press alongside Walt Disney's other cartoon characters, all offering their Christmas greetings. Later, Donald began to appear in a number of cartoons and comic books throughout China. In 1986, Donald Duck made his TV debut with Mickey Mouse on Chinese television, in a 30-minute show broadcast every week on the China Central Television.

Over the years, Donald Duck has become one of the most popular Disney characters.

Every year, around 150,000 guests visit Shanghai Disney Resort to say hello and take pictures with Donald at the character meet and greet locations. Around five million guests have visited the 11-meter-tall Giant Donald Duck on Wishing Star Lake since its inauguration on July 9, 2018.

Also, Donald's Waffles are one of the top-selling desserts in the park and Donald's Duckburg Ices are one of the most popular ice-creams available in the park.

In a multi-day celebration to his birthday this year, the Donald Duck meet and greet location in Shanghai Disneyland will feature celebratory birthday decor.

On June 9, there will be a special birthday ceremony near the Storyteller Statue featuring Donald Duck and his friends, Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto. Guests will also be invited to join the celebration and sing "Happy Birthday" to Donald – making for a wonderful photo moment to share with friends.

Shanghai Disney Resort will also be introducing memorable new additions to Donald-inspired merchandise offerings, such as photo clips, pins, cross-body bags and T-shirts.
