The Chinese mixed doubles team have bounced back well in the ongoing inaugural Curling World Cup in Suzhou after edging past South Korea 11-5 on Thursday.
Earlier, the home team's mixed doubles duo of Yu Jiaxin and Wang Xiangkun suffered a 1-12 loss against Olympic silver medalists Switzerland, and then were defeated by the US 9-2. Eventually, the hosts were third time lucky as their young duo picked up their first win of the tournament before the end of the day.
After the first four ends against the South Koreans, the PRC were behind 5-3, but in the fifth, they were able to clinch five points with the hammer. In the 6th, they again pocketed three points to lead 11-5, and held on to claim victory.
Meanwhile, the Chinese men's team lost out to Norway in their first round contest and were up against the USA. Zang Jialiang's Squad fell behind 4-3 after the first five ends.
But the US side were clearly not that well-adjusted to the new rules because in the 6th they exceeded their time for thinking by one second to hand China two points and fell behind 5-4.
In the 7th, China deliberately lost one point to have the hammer in the 8th, but captain Zang's last throw was just a few centimeters far from their opponent's red stone and they lost 6-5.
But the two defeats wouldn't matter as they later prevailed over 2018 World champions Sweden 7-2.
Meanwhile, in the women's rink, China bounced back from their opening defeat to the Swedes by beating Scotland 7-4. The win means both sides have a win and a loss with Japan being at the bottom of the group and are yet to get off the mark in the tournament.
