At least four people were killed and two others injured on Thursday due to a coal mine gas explosion in Neijiang City, southwest China's Sichuan Province, local media reported.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. BJT in a coal mine. The injured were sent to a local hospital and the rescue operation has ended.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
