The Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, will begin renovating the Yanxi Palace, devoting it to display of foreign artifacts by the year 2020. The Yanxi Palace is known as the Palace of Prolonging Happiness. It was burned down in a fire in 1845 during the reign of Emperor Daoguang (1821-1850). It was rebuilt as a three-floor Hall of Water on the original site in 1909. With stone and metals as columns and glass as walls, the hall was built by a pool, popularly known as "crystal palace."
