Four-time NBA champion, 2007 Finals MVP and long-time Spur Tony Parker has agreed to a two-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets worth 10 million US dollars, reported ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Saturday.
After 17 years with the Spurs, Parker will test the waters in Charlotte. According to Woj, Parker called Spurs' coach Gregg Popovich, to tell him of the news. Though San Antonio wanted him back, Parker will likely play an important role from the bench in Charlotte.

“It’s difficult to put into words how important Tony Parker has been to the Spurs franchise over the past two decades. From his first game in 2001 at age 19, TP has impressed and inspired us day-after-day, game-after-game, season-after-season with his passion, dedication and desire. We are grateful to Tony for 17 years of truly amazing memories... All of us in the Spurs organization will miss having Tony in our program and wish him and his family the best as he continues his remarkable career in Charlotte,” said Popovich in a statement to Parker.
Many wondered if Parker’s departure was related to the soap opera of Kawhi Leonard’s trade rumors. Parker's comments on Kawhi's injury is considered by some to be one of the reasons for Kawhi's desire to leave the Spurs. When asked about the relationship, Parker said there is no problem between him and Leonard.

“We never had an argument. When the journalist asked me if my injury was worse than Kawhi's, I said yes because it was true. But that didn't lessen the significance of his injury. He took over the franchise and I gave up the torch of the franchise willingly. It's very sad that the media took one quote and made it sound like I didn't want to play with him. He was the face of the franchise,” said Parker to ESPN.
Thirty-six-year-old Parker was selected by the Spurs with the 28th pick and joined the NBA in 2001. Parker was also the first European player to win the NBA Finals MVP.
