China has issued guidelines underscoring the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games as an important opportunity to develop winter sports across the country.
The guidelines mainly focus on preparation work for the games, the spread of winter sports especially among young people, and the development of the winter sports industry generally.
Beijing, which will become the first city in the world to hold both the summer and winter Olympics, has seen robust development in winter sports.
The capital will continue to set the pace as China plans to embrace a balanced winter sports industry by the time the games come around in three years.
The country aims to host more international winter sports competitions, such as in figure skating, to grow mass interest in the field and strengthen cooperation and exchanges with international organizations, including the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and those countries that show prowess in winter sports.
The success of the winter Olympics cannot be isolated from the robust flourishing of winter sports, the guidelines stated.
To achieve the goal, China will speed up its construction of winter sports infrastructure to encourage people across the nation to participate in ice and snow events.
Also, youngsters across the nation will benefit from a series of snow-and-ice themed campus activities and winter camps.
China has vowed to update its sports industry to a competitive and international platform that will also develop winter-related leisure and travel industries.
