The English Premier League’s Arsenal will change their kit sponsor to another German brand, Adidas, after their current contract with Puma ends at the end of the 2018-2019 season, and they will receive 77.1 US dollars from Adidas as part of the sponsorship deal, reported The Daily Mail on Tuesday.

Arsenal signed a five-year contract with Puma in 2014. Since then, Puma gave around 38.5 million US dollars to the English club every year. As Adidas will take over in 2019, the logo of the leaping panther on Arsenal’s jersey will be replaced by the iconic three stripes of Adidas on the sleeves.

Daily Mail said that the new source of cash will enable the team to be bolder and more confident in the transfer market. Current manager Unai Emery had just under 90 million US dollars as a budget for improving his team. How much, or how little is that? The following examples may give you a hint.

Liverpool have paid about 83.6 million US dollars for Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson from Roma. Chelsea gave some 97.8 million US dollars to get Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao. With such limited money, Emery is never going to get the star-level players he wants from the summer 2018 transfer market. Moreover, Arsenal have critical issues with their midfielder Aaron Ramsey. The 27-year-old Welsh player turned down a new contract and can leave in 2019 as a free agent. Chelsea have already offered 38.6 million US dollars for him.
