Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Spain bears historic significance and will inject new impetus to China-Spain cooperation, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.
Accompanying President Xi on his official visit to Spain, Wang made the remarks while meeting with his Spanish counterpart Josep Borrell in Madrid on Tuesday.
Wang said China stands ready to join hands with the Spanish side to deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), calling on the two countries to boost cooperation in vast areas.
For his part, Borrell pointed out that Xi's visit will usher in a new era for Spain-China ties.
Spain is willing to expand cooperation with China, he emphasized, adding that Spain will actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road.
Wang also talked with his French counterpart Le Drian via phone the same day.
He expressed that President Xi will meet with President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which will be of great significance for promoting the development of China-France relations to the next phase.
China is willing to enhance strategic coordination with France to ensure positive outcomes of the G20 summit, Wang added.
Drian noted that Macron looks forward to meeting with Xi in Buenos Aires.
Coping with climate change is one of the important topics of the G20 summit this year, Drian said, adding that France and China should make joint efforts to promote the summit and speak unanimously in this regard, and inject new impetus into the success of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations (UN) Framework Convention on Climate Change.
