Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, was invited by Argentine First Lady Juliana Awada to visit the country’s cultural landmark, Villa Ocampo, on the sidelines of the ongoing 13th G20 Summit held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on Friday.
Stopping at the lawn in front of the house, Peng enjoyed the Argentine local music played by a women's string quartet. The artists also played a piece of tango music for Peng.
Praising their skills, Peng said that she got close to the Argentine culture through the music. She invited artists to visit China for performance, expressing hope that they will contribute to cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Peng then visited the interior of the house and learned the house's history, along with Juliana Awada and other spouses of G20 leaders.
Located in the suburb of Buenos Aires, the Italian-style building was the former residence of Argentine female writer and social activist Victoria Ocampo (1890-1979), who met many famous political and cultural figures in the house. The house become a UNESCO property in 1973.
