Chinese President Xi Jinping said China and Angola should work together to accelerate the active and fast development of bilateral ties.

He made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Angolan President Joao Lourenco on Tuesday in Beijing, one month after the two met during the 2018 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

President Xi noted that the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC has injected new impetus into the China-Africa and China-Angola relations, and has brought new opportunities.

The Chinese President emphasized that China and Angola should increase high-level exchanges and communications, understand and support each other on issues of respective core interests and major concerns.

China stands resolutely behind African countries and people when they are opposing foreign interference, Xi said, adding that China also firmly upholds African countries' independent choice of the way to development.

He also urged the implementation of the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative, and exploration of new sources of the economic growth.

Lourenco commended that the collaboration between Angola and China has made the former's economic and social development stable.

He said Angola looks forward to strengthening cooperation between the two sides in infrastructure facilities and improving people's livelihood.

The Angolan president also spoke highly of China's approach to have pragmatic cooperation with the African continent without attaching any political strings to it.

He added that the cooperation plans China raised within the FOCAC framework has a very positive impact on the development of African countries.

The two heads of state also witnessed the signing of a series of bilateral cooperative documents.

Lourenco is in China for a state visit from October 8 to 10.
