China will host 2019 World Stamp Exhibition in Wuhan, central Hubei Province, from June 11 to 17, the State Council Information Office announced on Tuesday.
The exhibition is an international cultural exchange activity known as the "Olympics" of the philatelic community. It aims to promote the exchanges, cooperation and development of international philatelic culture.
This year's exhibition will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The event has driven attention from home and abroad. So far 87 countries and regions have signed up with 4,700 frames, of which 2,500 are from international exhibits. Experts believe it could become a record in the history of world stamp exhibition.
"Multimedia applications could also be experienced in this exhibition, ensuring visitors to be better involved in the interactions," said Kang Ning, vice president of China Post Group.
For the first time, a home letter will be included in the exhibition to showcase Chinese characteristics and humanistic feelings. What's more, exhibits by the physically handicapped will also be accepted.
China hosted the World Stamp Exhibition in Beijing 1999 and in Luoyang in 2009, respectively, to mark the 50th and 60th anniversaries of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
