China's foreign ministry has denounced a U.S. report that accuses China of being a "revisionist" power undermining the international order.

The ministry deemed the claim made in America's first Indo-Pacific Strategy report as groundless.

"China has always been safeguarding the international order," ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said. "China is the first country which signed on to the Charters of the United Nations, and has participated in more than 100 international organizations."

Geng said China had signed over 500 multilateral treaties and contributed the largest number of peacekeeping troops of all five permanent members of the UN Security Council. 

"By contrast, the U.S. has been conducting unilateralism, protectionism and hegemonism," he said. "It withdrew from the Paris climate pact, which over 190 countries signed. It exited the Iran nuclear deal, the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, and many other international organizations. Although a member of the WTO, it violates international trade rules by using the weapon of tariffs. So who's the destroyer of the international order?"
