The Indian government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented the interim budget for the fiscal year 2019-20 on Saturday in the lower house of parliament. With less than three months left before the general elections, Modi’s government is trying to shore up political support with sops for distressed farmers and tax cuts for the middle class. The full budget will be presented after the elections, which is expected to take place between April and May this year.
