A film about Peppa Pig is hitting theaters across China on February 5 next year, just in time for the Year of the Pig on the Chinese calendar.

The trailer of "Peppa Celebrates Chinese New Year" was dropped on Friday, hyping up an already pumped crowd.

The film was co-produced Alibaba Pictures and Canadian media company Entertainment One, and is the first Chinese title combining live action and animated elements.

The story is set inside a traditional Chinese household where family members are getting together to celebrate the Chinese New Year, with Peppa Pig and her friends in attendance.

The film features many Chinese elements, including pandas, Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) and Jiaozi (dumplings), dragon dances, paper-cutting art and firecrackers.

It is an "important work" promoting "Chinese and foreign cultural exchanges with its global release,” Olivier Dumont, president of Entertainment One, said earlier this year.

"We hope excellent traditional Chinese culture will be inherited in a better way, and the up-to-date family atmosphere and education idea of Chinese younger generation can be shared to global viewers," said Zhang Wei, president of Alibaba Pictures.

Peppa Pig is a British preschool animated TV program that has taken over the world since it first aired in 2004.

The series debuted in China in 2015, with 10 billion online views in the first year of its release, according to Shanghai-based The Paper outlet.
