Chinese center Zhou Qi on Sunday nailed 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead China in a dominating 90-59 win over Syria in Group E during the sixth window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers in Beirut, Lebanon.
After a double-digit loss to Jordan to kick off the sixth window, China looked to get back into the win column.
China began to heat up in the second quarter thanks to the three-point shooting of Liu Zhixuan and consistency of Zhou. China evened the score at 23 points before taking a six-point lead going into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, China stretched the lead by knocking down shots from the field to establish a 15-point gap over Syria. That lead would balloon to 30 points in the fourth quarter for a confidence-boosting win. China exits the qualifying round with a 7-5 record in the group.
As the host country for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, China automatically qualifies for the event. The country will host the tournament from August 31 to September 15 in multiple cities.
