At least three people were killed and 172 others were injured after a powerful tornado devastated the Cuban capital of Havana on Sunday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez announced on Twitter.
The storm caused damages to numerous buildings in the worst-hit neighborhood of Regla. Residents there are now cleaning the debris and packaging their belongings to find shelter.
"We heard a huge sound as the tornado came very suddenly. It felt like a jet landing on the roof. The whole process lasted less than a minute, which caused serious damage," local residents told the media.
Rescue teams are clearing branches and downed power lines to restore power as quickly as possible.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has inspected the disaster-stricken area to deploy repair and reconstruction efforts.
