The Beijing International Horticultural Exposition will be held in Yanqing County, Beijing, starting April 29, spanning 162 days, during which 16 million visitors are expected. 20,000 volunteers will join the park operation and visitor services. There will be about 600 volunteers per day. Each volunteer will provide services for no less than 7 days consecutively.
Since the recruitment information was released in January, more than 100,000 applicants registered through telephone or on-site consultations. Online registration exceeded 15,000.
The 2,000 volunteers for the trial period and opening ceremony are ready to take on their positions, with good language skills, volunteering experience, and knowledge about plants and gardening. Most of them have volunteered in major events before, and are fluent in English; many are proficient in French, German, Spanish and other languages.
Volunteers are attending lectures of no less than 30 hours about the history and culture of Beijing, volunteering, manners and etiquette, and receive emergency training. Meanwhile, infrastructure and services for the volunteers are also ready, including accommodation, transportation, catering, and insurance.
