PSG eliminated by Guingamp in French League Cup

Paris Saint-Germain failed in their sixth straight French League Cup title bid after suffering a 2-1 home loss to Ligue 1 strugglers Guingamp in quarterfinals on Wednesday.

PSG also saw their 43-match winning streak in domestic cups come to an end in a disappointing manner.

Guingamp converted two of three spot kicks by Yeni Ngbakoto and Marcus Thuram, canceling out Brazilian star Neymar's deadlock-breaking header.

After both sides failed to score in the first half, Guingamp earned their first penalty on the hour mark due to Meunier's foul on Ludovic Blas, but Thuram saw his powerful shot go over the crossbar. Meunier made some redemption moments later, as his precise right-flank cross released Neymar for a comfortable header at the far post in the 63rd minute.

Match referee Benoit Bastien pointed to the 12-yard spot for the second time after consulting to VAR, as Marcus Coco fell down inside the box following contact with Juan Bernat.

Ngbakoto didn't waste the chance this time to level the score with less than 10 minutes remaining. It was even more painful for PSG when they were penalized again for a foul inside the box into stoppage time. Thuram converted the spot kick that he had created after being fouled by Thilo Kehrer, handing the Ligue 1 bottom side a morale-boosting victory.

Young goalkeeper Loic Badiashile was heroic in Monaco's victory over Rennes through a marathon penalty shootout.

Badiashile, 20, saved three penalties and finished the shootout at 8-7 with his winner. Despite Benjamin Bourigeaud's sweep that earned Rennes an advantage in the 30th minute, Monaco had their response by Rony Lopes, who returned to starting lineup, nine minutes into the second half.

Also on Wednesday, Bordeaux eliminated Ligue 2 outfit Le Havre 1-0.

Strasbourg had sealed their semifinal berth by seeing off Lyon 2-1 on Tuesday.
