Hundreds of Tibetan monks and pilgrims attended the unveiling of a massive Buddhist scroll known as a thangka, in Sertri Monastery of northwest China's Gansu Province, on Sunday. The tradition, which roughly translates as the "sunbathing Buddha festival," began at dawn when some novice monks carried the sacred thangka to a hilltop so the early rays of sunlight could shine upon it. The followers believe this is a blessing for the year ahead.
