In the alleyway leading to the festival, a number of Chinese artists showcased their hand-made embroideries, paintings and accessories.

"I heard that many Egyptians are interested in Chinese traditional culture," said Wu Junmin, a 53-year-old embroidery artist and founder of Tangren Embroidery Company in Taiyuan City. "I hope one day I could come back again and get more chances to introduce Chinese Shanxi embroidery."

Most of the cultural activities at this year's event are part of the national or provincial intangible heritages from Shanxi Province, including paper-cutting, acrobatics and folk dance.
