Lewis Hamilton cruised to a record sixth victory in the Hungarian Grand Prix, his fifth win of the season and 67th of his career.
On this notoriously tight track where chances to overtake other racers are few, England's Hamilton extended his lead in the overall standings with 24 points ahead of Vettel.
Starting from pole position after the Mercedes driver was fastest in Saturday's wet qualifying, his main title rival Sebastian Vettel was fourth on the grid. But right away Vettel passed his teammate Kimi Raikkonen for third.
On just the sixth lap, Red Bull's Max Verstappen retired early with an engine failure that infuriated both the driver and his team. Ferrari's Raikkonen was without water during the race because his team forgot to connect the bottle, and he made two stops in this race finishing third.
Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, started 12th and overtook Maclaren's Fernando Alonso, then Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly, finished fourth.
Hamilton's teammate Bottas slotted in behind the Briton to help hold off the Ferrari. He first hit Vettel damaging the front wing of his Mercedes, and then he also collided with Ricciardo. Bottas finished fifth with 10 seconds penalty.
Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso finished eighth for McLaren on his 37th birthday.
