French President Emmanuel Macron visited the site on Monday night and vowed to devote to restoring the historic building, "We’ll all rebuild this cathedral together, and it’s undoubtedly part of the French destiny and the project we’ll have for the coming years.” /Getty Images
Authorities declared Tuesday morning that the fire had been contained as firefighters hosed the south side of the transept to cool down the building. The main stone structure, including its two towers, was luckily saved intact. /Getty Images
