A court in Shanghai held a hearing on Wednesday about the accusations of child abuse which occurred in a day care center belonging to China's travel service Ctrip, with eight people pleading guilty.
The public prosecution organ, the People's Procuratorate of Changning District, Shanghai, attended the hearing and accused eight people involved, including the person in charge of the center, identified as Zheng, and seven other teachers and babysitters of abusing children, most of whom are children of Ctrip staff members.
The procuratorate stated that the seven involved had used wasabi as a threat to children who did not listen to them, sprayed liquid on the children, and even pushed and beat the children between August and November in 2017.

Zheng, the person in charge was said to have not stopped the staff members' wrongdoing and reminded them to avoid surveillance cameras.
In the court, the organ claimed that Zheng had been aware of the child abuse but still connived at the behavior of the seven teachers and babysitters – child abuse.
The eight pleaded guilty and apologized to the parents of the children and the society at the court after the presentation of evidence. The court will select another date to make the final verdict.

Ctrip signed a contract with a magazine press which was under Shanghai Women's Federation to establish a day care center for children of its employees in 2016. Just a year later, an employee found bruises on her child's ears and child abuse through surveillance cameras.
Shanghai Women's Federation also responded to the incident, vowing to handle the matter seriously and strengthen management.
